Lymph Node

Description
Includes short term (usually overnight and 24 hour) unstimulated cultures of lymph node cells for suspected lymphoma. Cytogenetic evaluation includes detailed analysis of 20 cells and at least two banded karyotypes. The referring physician is called with results as soon as they are available.

Indications
• suspected lymphoma

Specimen Requirements
Sterile 2 mm thick center slice or wedge of lymph node or other lymphomatous tissue. Place in sterile tissue culture medium or sterile saline in a sterile screw-top container. Tissue culture medium is supplied by Great Lakes Genetics. Please call 414-475-5904 to obtain medium. Specimen cannot be frozen. Label tube with patient's name and laboratory control number. Indicate the suspected type of lymphoma on the Great Lakes Genetics Requisition Form. Sample should be transported to Great Lakes Genetics as soon as possible. Lymphoma cells readily become nonviable after nodal tissue is removed from its blood supply.
